Description
Ponte Roma is a double-face interlock knit binding produced on double circular machines. The name refers to a specific needle arrangement that acts as a "bridge" (ponte) between two rows of needles. Both faces show a smooth jersey look yet are joined — the result is a dense, dimensionally stable, moderately stretchy fabric weighing over 300 g/m².
Base material is usually a polyester-viscose-elastane blend (e.g. 65% PES / 30% VI / 5% EL), less often 100% cotton or wool. Weights range from 300 to 400 g/m². The cloth drapes heavily and straight, hardly wrinkles, does not curl at the edges and is very easy to sew — needle-friendly, no fraying.
Classic uses: business dresses, blazer alternatives, jersey-look suit trousers, skirts, casual ponte pants (Sarah Pacini, MaxMara, COS), hospitality uniforms. Ideal for corporate wear because it is low-maintenance and shape-retaining. Care: 30 °C, low iron, no tumble dry.
