Scuba knit / scuba jersey
Also known as: Neoprene-look jersey, Techno scuba, Double knit
Bulky polyester double knit (often with elastane) — mimics the look of neoprene without its membrane.
Description
Scuba jersey is a double-faced circular knit fabric of fine polyester, usually with 3-8 % elastane for bi-elastic recovery. A thin trapped air layer sits between the two knit faces, giving the fabric volume and shape retention — the look and hand recall neoprene wetsuits but without the rubber membrane.
The fabric drapes heavily and stays rigid, flatters the silhouette and is popular for structured dresses, crew-neck sweaters, skirts, sports blazers and techno sportswear. It does not tolerate raw edges but is easily cut with a rotary cutter and finished with an overlock. Washable at 30 °C, no ironing, no hot tumble drying — polyester melts.
- Double-faced circular knit, bi-elastic (warp + weft)
- Usually 90-97 % polyester + 3-10 % elastane
- Volume look similar to neoprene without the membrane
- Dimensionally stable, flattering, highly durable
