Three-Thread Fleece
Also known as: 3-thread fleece, 3-end fleece, brushed 3-thread sweat
Heavy sweat fabric knitted from three yarn systems (face, tie and loop yarn) — typically 280–360 g/m², brushed on the inside, warm and dimensionally stable for premium hoodies and sweatshirts.
Description
Three-thread fleece (also 3-end fleece or 3-thread sweat) is the classic winter quality for hoodies, college sweatshirts and zip-hoodies. It is knitted on circular machines from three separate yarn systems: a smooth face yarn on the right side, a fine tie yarn in the core and a bulky loop yarn that forms long loops on the reverse.
After knitting, these loops are brushed, creating the characteristic soft inside full of trapped air — the wearer feels warmer without changing the fibre composition. Typical weights are between 280 and 360 g/m². Compared with the lighter two-thread sweat (200–250 g/m²), three-thread is noticeably fuller, more robust and dimensionally more stable.
- Usually 80 % cotton / 20 % polyester or 100 % cotton
- Inside is brushed ("peached") for a warm hand
- Standard for winter hoodies and heavy college sweats
- Higher wash stability and less shrinkage than two-thread quality
