Description
Bionic-Finish Eco (BFE) is a water- and dirt-repellent textile finish from Rudolf GmbH in Geretsried, Bavaria. The name refers to a bionic approach: the dendritic, branched polymer structure mimics the fine hairs of a bee and the wax crystals of the lotus leaf — water beads off in droplets while the fibre stays upright.
Unlike classic C6 or C8 fluoropolymers, BFE contains no per- or polyfluorinated substances, so it complies with REACH, ZDHC and bluesign requirements. The finish is applied in the mill to face and membrane fabrics (used e.g. by Vaude, Jack Wolfskin, Fjällräven, Salewa). Wash resistance typically 20+ cycles, refreshed by ironing or tumble-drying.
