Ultra-thin 2-layer build with the GORE-TEX membrane on the outside — extremely light, water beads off instantly, no DWR refresh needed; discontinued end of 2023.
Description
GORE-TEX Shakedry was a special construction introduced in 2016 in which the microporous ePTFE membrane is laminated directly onto a thin inner carrier without a protective face fabric – just two layers instead of three. The result: a jacket weighing about 100–150 g on which water immediately rolls off in perfect beads (hence the name: you can just shake it dry) and no DWR treatment ever needs to be refreshed, because the membrane itself forms the hydrophobic outer skin.
Water column > 28,000 mm, RET < 3 (exceptionally breathable), 2-layer construction with the ePTFE membrane on the outside, classically available only in black (the membrane is UV-sensitive). Downsides: highly abrasion-sensitive (no backpack, no rock scrambling), expensive, no colours, membrane ages faster than in protected 3-layer builds. Users: trail running, road cycling, fast-packing, ultra-ambitious athletes. Gore ended production at the end of 2023 (last stock into 2024); successors are lightweight builds with the new ePE membrane.
