The North Face's in-house polyurethane rain membrane; waterproof, breathable, usually built as a 3-layer laminate.
Description
HyVent is The North Face's in-house rain membrane, introduced in 2001. Chemistry: hydrophilic polyurethane coating with a three-dimensional honeycomb structure, applied as a 2-, 2.5- or 3-layer build. Water column 10,000–25,000 mm (HyVent, HyVent Alpha, HyVent DT), MVTR 800–1,100 g/m2/24h.
Since 2016 gradually replaced by FUTURELIGHT (nano-spun PU), but HyVent stays in the mid-price line-up (Resolve, Antora, Venture 2). Affordable alternative to GORE-TEX and free of external licensing. HyVent DT is a DryTouch backer for better hand. Seams factory-taped.
