OutDry Extreme (Columbia)

Waterproof-breathable construction by Columbia in which the membrane is laminated to the outside — no face fabric, no wet-out, no DWR needed.
Description
OutDry is a waterproof-breathable membrane system by US brand Columbia Sportswear, acquired in 2010 through the takeover of Italian OutDry Technologies S.r.l. Unlike classic 3-layer constructions (face fabric / membrane / mesh liner), in OutDry Extreme the membrane is laminated directly to the outside of the jacket — there is no separate, absorbent face fabric.
The benefit: no „wet-out" effect. Conventional rain jackets soak through the outer face in heavy rain, the DWR treatment fades over time — the interior stays dry but the jacket becomes heavy and breathability drops. In OutDry Extreme water beads directly off the membrane; no face fabric can even absorb water. Since 2019, OutDry Extreme ECO has been available without PFC/PFAS chemistry and with an rPET inner liner.
