Description
Pertex Quantum is an extremely fine nylon fabric (ultra-micro-denier, often using DuPont's 22 dtex yarn) woven in a dense, balanced construction. At a weight of around 20–30 g/m², it is one of the lightest technical shell fabrics available, and heat-calendering (a technique borrowed from parachute production) makes it even tighter.
That dense structure also makes it downproof: even the finest down filaments are held inside while the insulation can fully loft. Classic uses are down jackets and vests, ultra-light synthetic insulated pieces, wind shirts, bivy bags and sleeping-bag shells. Despite its featherweight, Pertex Quantum is surprisingly resistant to abrasion and tears.
