Antimicrobial finish by Swedish company Polygiene AB against odour build-up; based on silver chloride from recycled silver, extending wash intervals.
Description
Polygiene Antimicrobial is the branded finish line of Swedish company Polygiene AB (Malmö, established 2006). It comprises three key treatments:
- Stays Fresh: antimicrobial silver-chloride finish (AgCl from recycled silver) – standard against odour
- Odor Crunch: mineral finish absorbing volatile odour molecules (VOC) – complements Stays Fresh, also suitable for vegan products
- ViralOff: reduces viral load on textiles by >99 % within 2 hours per ISO 18184 (relevance grew with COVID-19)
Mechanism of Stays Fresh: silver ions disrupt the cell metabolism of odour-causing bacteria and fungi at concentrations <5 ppm. Key sustainability effect: garments with Polygiene need to be washed far less often – per Polygiene studies the carbon footprint of a garment can be cut by up to 30 %.
Certifications: bluesign, OEKO-TEX Eco Passport, US-EPA registration, BPR-compliant (Biocidal Products Regulation EU 528/2012). Wash-stable up to 100 cycles. Licensed to brands including Adidas, Puma, Craft, Peak Performance, Buff, Ortovox, Icebreaker.
