First fully plant-based, fluorine-free water repellent under the Teflon brand (Chemours) — for membrane face fabrics and apparel.
Description
Teflon EcoElite is the non-fluoro version of the Teflon textile finish, introduced in 2015 by US chemicals firm Chemours (spun off from DuPont). Instead of perfluorinated side chains, EcoElite relies on a polymer structure with renewable, plant-based raw materials (share > 60 % renewable). It is thus the first commercial DWR under the Teflon brand fully free of PFAS/PFC.
Tested according to AATCC 22 (spray test), EcoElite reaches a score of 100 unwashed and stays above 80 after 30 washes — remarkable for a fluorine-free DWR. The finish is mill-applied and used e.g. in rain jackets, softshells, uniforms and backpacks. Oil and stain repellency is lower than with C8-DWR, so pure outdoor items often use it as a complement, while casual wear and uniforms adopt it as a full replacement.
