Description

Cashgora is the wool of a goat cross between a cashmere buck and an angora doe. The hybrid has been bred from the 1970s onwards, mainly in Australia, New Zealand and Argentina, to combine cashmere fineness with the higher fleece yield of the angora.

At 18–24 µm the fibre is finer than mohair (25–45 µm) but coarser than top cashmere (14–16 µm). It shows a slight silky sheen from the angora side and the soft, insulating handle of the cashmere side. The IWTO officially defines cashgora as a fibre category in its own right. Uses: high-end knitwear, cardigans, scarves, blazers, often blended with merino wool or silk. Cashgora has remained a small niche product because herd management is demanding and fibre yield fluctuates.

  • Cross of cashmere buck × angora doe
  • Fineness 18–24 µm — between cashmere and mohair
  • Slight silky sheen, insulating, soft
