Description

Industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa) is grown with virtually no pesticides, little water and no irrigation. The stem fibres are spun into yarn after retting and breaking. Traditionally hemp was the standard material for ropes, sailcloth and workwear before cotton and synthetics displaced it.

Hemp fibres are among the strongest natural fibres available, are dirt-repellent and antibacterial. The hand is initially rough but softens with every wash. Sustainable fashion has driven a hemp renaissance, often in blends with cotton. Typical uses: summer wear, denim, backpacks, home textiles.

  • Very strong — historical rope and sailcloth
  • Eco-friendly: few pesticides, little water
  • Antibacterial and dirt-repellent
