3-thread overlock
Also known as: 3-thread serger, Overedge 3-thread
Light overlock variant with one needle and two loopers – standard for finishing jersey edges.
Description
The 3-thread overlock (ISO 4915 class 504) uses one needle thread plus two looper threads that wrap the fabric edge. It is softer and flatter than the 4- or 5-thread variant and stretches well at 30–50 %. Strength 40–80 N/cm at 4–5 stitches/cm.
Because it adds little bulk, it is preferred for thin single jerseys, viscose shirts, blouses and children's bodies – anywhere a broader 4/5-thread seam would be too stiff. Sewn on overlock machines like Juki MO-6704, Pegasus M732 with textured looper yarn.
