Appliqué seam
Also known as: Appliqué stitch, Patch attachment stitch
Seam that fixes a patch or fabric cut-out onto the base material – typically dense zigzag or E-stitch.
Description
The appliqué seam attaches a patch, emblem or fabric cut-out to a base carrier. Standard variants are dense satin zigzag (stitch width 2–4 mm, length 0.3–0.7 mm) for sharp contours and the E-stitch (edge chaining) for soft, stretchy materials.
Used for name patches on workwear, club emblems on jerseys, twill appliqués on varsity jackets, letters on sweaters and decorative elements on childrenswear. Sewn on zigzag machines (Juki LZ-2280) or embroidery machines with appliqué software; often with a fusible interlining backing.
