Blind hem

The blind hem is produced with a blindstitch machine or with the blindstitch foot of a sewing machine. The needle skips most of the upper layer and only catches it with a small skip stitch, so only tiny dots remain visible on the face side. Typical stitch length 6–10 mm, swing width 3–4 mm.

Used for suit trousers, skirts, dresses, curtains, chino cuffs and business blouse hems. Sewn on specialty machines such as Strobel 141-23, US Blindstitch 718 or on domestic sewing machines with a blindstitch foot and overedge guide.
