Cross stitch

Two crossing diagonal stitches form an X – the basic decorative stitch of embroidery, also used for appliqués.
Description
The cross stitch consists of two diagonal stitches crossing at right angles (X) and is worked on a counted-thread ground (Aida cloth, evenweave linen) or as free ornamental embroidery. It is regular, compact and easily translated to motifs and letters.
Textile uses: name embroidery on childrenswear and towels, hotel corporate logos on bathrobes, decorative appliqués on cushions and vintage-look promotional textiles. Industrially, cross-stitch motifs are worked by embroidery machines (Tajima TFMX, Barudan BEMLX) in cross-fill mode.
