Elastic Zigzag Stitch

Variant of the zigzag stitch in which each zigzag movement is split by two or three small forward stitches — stretchable, flat and ideal for attaching elastic tape and hemming jersey.
Description
The elastic zigzag stitch, often called lingerie stitch, 3-step zigzag or stretch zigzag, is a further development of the classic zigzag for stretch materials. Instead of a single stitch per zigzag movement, the machine sets two or three small straight stitches before the needle changes direction. This lays the seam very flat and wide onto the fabric.
Because the thread distribution is much more elastic than in a normal zigzag, the stitch is used above all for attaching elastic tape (girdles, sports bras, cuffs), for repairing tears in knitwear and for finishing and hemming jersey and knitted fabrics. Adaptive clothing and repair applications also benefit, because the seam is less likely to burst thanks to its elasticity.
