High-frequency welded seam (HF/RF welding)
Also known as: RF welding, Dielectric welding, HF welded seam
Welding of polar plastics (PVC, PU) in an alternating electromagnetic field – tight, high-load seam type for inflatable textiles.
Description
In HF welding (27.12 MHz, ISM band), polar plastics such as PVC, PU or PET are heated between two electrodes in a high-frequency alternating field: molecular friction melts the material locally, pressure fuses the layers into an air- and water-tight seam. Dwell time 1–5 s, seam width 3–10 mm, tensile strength >200 N/cm.
Used for inflatable advertising displays, rain ponchos, PVC tarps, truck tarpaulins, inflatable life vests, waterproof suitcase linings and medical blood bags. Not suitable for non-polar plastics like PE or PP (where ultrasonic is used). Machines e.g. Kiefel KTP, Radyne AL8, Yj Machinery HF-30.
