Precise 6 mm lockstitch that joins individual fabric blocks accurately into a surface – the basis of every quilt.
Description
The patchwork seam (piecing seam) is a plain lockstitch (class 301) with an exact allowance of 1/4 inch (6.35 mm). This American quilting convention ensures that block dimensions stay true when assembled and that corners meet cleanly. Usually cotton sewing thread Nm 50, stitch length 2 mm.
Uses: quilts, patchwork cushion covers, boutique bags with panel designs, decorative wall hangings, baby play mats and vintage/retro fashion items. The joined top is typically then fixed by a quilting stitch (hand or machine) through the three layers (top, batting, back).
