Raw cut
Also known as: Raw-cut edge, Bonded cut
Unfinished but non-fraying cut edge – possible with laminated or ultrasonically welded fabrics.
Description
Raw cut refers to cut edges that are neither hemmed nor overcast but secured against fraying by the material construction (laminate, bonding) or the cutting process (CO2 laser, ultrasonic, hot knife). Typical for 3-layer softshells (Polartec Power Shield), TPU-laminated gloves and stretch bike shirts.
Advantage: no seam bulk, minimum weight, maximum freedom of movement. Disadvantage: only possible with thermoplastic or bonded materials. Strength depends on the substrate (softshell 40–70 N/cm). Sample products at Clubmartin: softshell bike shorts, cycling jersey with laser-cut hem, baselayer with raw-cut sleeve finish.
