Taped seam (seam tape, GORE-TEX)

Plastic tape heat-bonded to the seam's inside, sealing needle holes – mandatory on waterproof membrane jackets.
Description
The taped seam is produced in two steps: the fabric is sewn conventionally, then a 12–22 mm wide polyurethane or polyester tape is heat-bonded to the inside of the seam with a hot-air tape machine (W&B PC 8000, Hi-Line 800) at 400–650 °C and 3–6 bar. The tape seals the needle holes.
Standard on all GORE-TEX, eVent, Sympatex, Pertex Shield and Dermizax jackets as well as rain trousers and weather-protection overalls. The membrane's water column (typically 10,000–28,000 mm) is thus maintained at the seams. Narrow micro-tapes from 8 mm exist for critical areas; on GORE-TEX Paclite the tape is bonded directly to the single-layer construction.
