Zigzag stitch (class 304)
Also known as: Zig-zag, 304 stitch
Elastic lockstitch with sideways needle motion – for finishing, appliqué and joining stretch fabrics.
Description
The zigzag stitch (ISO 4915 class 304) is a lockstitch where the needle alternates between left and right. Adjustable by stitch width (2–7 mm) and length (0.5–4 mm), it offers 15–40 % elasticity and prevents raw edges from fraying. Strength 30–70 N/cm.
Uses: finishing edges (when no overlock is available), attaching patches and appliqués, sewing elastic and drawcords, and dense zigzag for satin bar-tacks. Sample products at Clubmartin: appliqués on baby bodies, drawcords on hoodies, name patches on workwear.
