Description
Lyocell is a regenerated cellulose fibre produced in a direct-solvent process using N-methylmorpholine N-oxide (NMMO). Unlike classic viscose, production runs in a nearly fully closed loop in which over 99 % of the solvent is recovered — making lyocell one of the most environmentally friendly chemical fibres.
The raw material is usually eucalyptus wood from FSC- or PEFC-certified plantations. The finished fibre is soft, smooth, highly absorbent, breathable and dimensionally stable even when wet. It is significantly more tear-resistant than classic viscose and is often blended with cotton, linen or elastane.
