Description
Cupro (short: CUP) is a regenerated cellulose fibre made by the cuprammonium process (E. Schweizer 1857) from cotton linters — the short residual fibres from cotton ginning. Today it is globally sold exclusively under the Bemberg® brand of Asahi Kasei (Japan), with annual production around 10,000 t (2023).
The fibre has a circular skinless cross-section and filament fineness of 0.7–1.9 dtex — producing silky lustre, excellent drape and a pleasant cool touch. Cupro is hygroscopic, low-static and biodegradable. Main use: linings for jackets, blazers and coats, plus premium women's outerwear, lingerie and saris. Cupro shrinks slightly on washing and should be washed cold.

Bemberg® meets the EU Ecolabel and biodegrades in industrial compost within a few weeks.
