Elastolefin
Also known as: XLA®, Olefin elastomer
Chlorine and chemical resistant elastomer fibre based on polyolefins, a robust alternative to elastane.
Description
Elastolefin is a synthetic elastomer fibre made from cross-linked polyolefins (polyethylene / polypropylene). It was added to the EU textile labelling regulation in 2002 and is known under the trade name XLA® (Dow / Fiber Innovation Technology).
The fibre is considerably less stretchable than elastane (typically 100–200 %) but extremely resistant to chlorine, UV, ozone and many chemicals. It is temperature stable up to about 220 °C and easy to machine wash and dry. This makes elastolefin ideal for swimwear, workwear, uniforms and outdoor textiles exposed to aggressive conditions.

Typical blend shares are 2–5 %. Especially in pool use, elastolefin significantly extends the life of stretch fabrics compared to classic elastane.
