Ingeo PLA 6202
Also known as: NatureWorks Ingeo 6202, PLA staple fibre 6202, Ingeo fibre grade 6202
Bio-based polylactic-acid fibre grade from NatureWorks for staple fibres in apparel and home textiles.
Description
Ingeo PLA 6202 is a specific fibre grade of the bio-based polymer polylactic acid (PLA) from NatureWorks. The feedstock is produced by fermenting plant sugars (corn, sugarcane, sugar beet, cassava) and manufactured at the Blair, Nebraska plant, which is the world's largest PLA facility with around 150,000 tonnes annual capacity.
Grade 6202 is optimised for staple-fibre extrusion and can be spun with cotton, wool or lyocell. Finished Ingeo yarns feel silky and cool, absorb little moisture and dry quickly, which makes them attractive for T-shirts, bedding and jacket linings.
- Glass transition at 60 °C, melting point 150-160 °C — care needed when ironing or tumble-drying
- Compostable under industrial conditions (about 60 °C, high humidity)
- Significantly lower CO2 footprint than conventional PET polyester
- Sensitive to alkalis — use pH-neutral gentle detergents
