Description

Lycra® is the registered trademark for elastane fibres developed in 1959 by DuPont™ and today produced by The Lycra Company (formerly Invista). Chemically it is segmented polyurethane; functionally Lycra® is identical to elastane / spandex.

The fibre offers exceptional stretch, high recovery force and dimensional stability. It is typically woven or knitted with cotton, wool, polyester or polyamide to make garments well fitting, comfortable and durable. Standard blend shares are 2–15 %.

  • Best-known elastane brand worldwide
  • Extremely stretchable and dimensionally stable
  • Standard in swim, sports and hosiery
  • Various sub-brands (Lycra® T400®, Lycra® Sport, Lycra® XTRA LIFE™) for specific requirements

Sensitivity to chlorine and UV limits its life in pool use — special lines such as Lycra® XTRA LIFE™ address exactly this issue.
