Nomex®

Meta-aramid fibre from DuPont™ with high flame resistance for firefighting, motorsport and military apparel.
Description
Nomex® is DuPont™'s trade name for meta-aramid fibres and was commercially introduced in 1967. Chemically it is poly-meta-phenylene isophthalamide, whose aromatic ring structure makes the fibre inherently flame retardant — the protective effect remains even after many wash cycles.
Nomex® chars at around 370 °C without melting or dripping. Typical uses are structural firefighter kit, motorsport driver suits, military pilot coveralls and electrician workwear. Nomex® is often blended with Kevlar® or antistatic fibres (e.g. Nomex® III A).

Nomex® is the reference fibre for heat-exposed workwear to EN ISO 11612.
