PEVA

Chlorine-free, low-plasticiser plastic film used as a PVC substitute for rain jackets, shower curtains and bags.
Description
PEVA (polyethylene vinyl acetate) is a compound of polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate produced as a flexible, waterproof film. It contains no chlorine and no phthalate plasticisers and is therefore marketed as a more skin-friendly alternative to PVC.
PEVA films are frequently used for affordable rain ponchos, light rain jackets, shower curtains, toiletry bags, garment bags and packaging. They are flexible, low in odour, waterproof and can be heat sealed at low temperature. Typical material thickness is 0.08 to 0.25 mm.

Recycling is only limited; however, PEVA is considered toxicologically preferable to PVC and is a sensible price-safety compromise, e.g. for children's rainwear.
