Polyacrylic

Common umbrella term for polyacrylonitrile-based fibres, technically largely synonymous with acrylic.
Description
Polyacrylic is a commonly used umbrella term in the German-speaking market for fibres based on polyacrylonitrile (PAN). According to European textile labelling regulation (EU 1007/2011), it covers any fibre consisting of linear macromolecules with at least 85 % acrylonitrile units.
Physically, polyacrylic is soft, warm, elastic and dimensionally stable. It can be dyed brilliantly, resists light and weathering and is often used in knitwear, sweaters, fleece blends, blankets and home textiles. In technical applications such as sun-protection fabrics, filter media and concrete reinforcement, the UV and chemical resistance is exploited.

Distinction: modacrylic contains less acrylonitrile (35–85 %) and is used for flame-retardant textiles, while classic polyacrylic / acrylic with at least 85 % PAN dominates apparel.
