Polyethylene fibre

Thermoplastic polyolefin fibre (HDPE), lightweight and chemically resistant, mostly used as nets, ropes and technical fabrics.
Description
Standard polyethylene fibre is produced from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) by melt spinning. It is the plain relative of ultra-high-molecular-weight UHMWPE (Dyneema®/Spectra®), significantly weaker but very cheap and chemically almost inert.
PE fibre is used for fishing nets, fence and construction textiles, water-repellent technical fabrics, low-cost ropes and as bicomponent fibre (PE/PP) for non-wovens. In apparel it is seldom used alone but appears as an admixture in sports socks and high-vis vest linings. HDPE fibre melts at around 130–135 °C and, like PP, is UV-sensitive without stabilisers.
