Polygiene Biostatic (silver-chloride finish)
Also known as: Polygiene odor control, Silver chloride finish, Polygiene Stays Fresh
Antimicrobial finish using recycled silver chloride to permanently prevent odour-causing bacteria on textiles.
Description
Polygiene Biostatic is the core technology of Swedish supplier Polygiene AB (founded 2006, listed on Nasdaq Stockholm). During finishing, fine particles of recycled silver chloride (AgCl) are fixed onto fibre and fabric in the finishing bath. The silver ions act bacteriostatically: they inhibit growth of odour-causing bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis and Corynebacterium, which break down human sweat into fatty acids and cause the typical textile odour.
The finish stays active for the entire lifetime of the garment (manufacturer warranty around 100 wash cycles), can cut washing and tumble-drying frequency by up to 50 percent and is therefore ideal for sports, outdoor and corporate textiles worn for long stretches. Polygiene is bluesign-approved, OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT-certified and compliant with the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). Brand users include Adidas, Patagonia, Craghoppers, Bergans, and Icebreaker (for synthetic blends).
