Polyimide P84
Also known as: P84, P84 fibre, Evonik P84
Evonik's high-temperature polyimide fibre with a multi-lobed cross-section — the standard for hot-gas filtration in cement plants and power stations.
Description
P84 is a polyimide fibre produced by Evonik from aromatic dianhydrides and diisocyanates. Its characteristic irregular multi-lobed cross-section increases specific surface area and makes it a first-class filter fibre: it captures fine dust at the fibre surface without requiring a deep filter cake.
The fibre withstands continuous operating temperatures of about 260 °C and higher peaks; the glass transition temperature is around 315 °C and the LOI is 38 %. Worldwide, more than 120 coal-fired power plants and 150 cement plants are dedusted with P84 filter bags. P84 is also used in needle felts as an inner protective layer and as thermal insulation in aerospace and defence.
- Multi-lobed cross-section for outstanding filtration efficiency
- Continuous service up to 260 °C, higher peaks tolerated
- LOI 38 % — non-flammable, halogen-free
- Core use: needle-felt filter bags in cement, waste-to-energy and power plants
