Solotex (Triexta, older generation)

Older Japanese PTT (poly-trimethylene terephthalate) fibre by Asahi Kasei and Teijin, forerunner of today's triexta ranges.
Description
Solotex is a PTT (poly-trimethylene terephthalate) fibre originally developed in Japan by Asahi Kasei in the late 1990s and later marketed by Teijin Frontier. Chemically it is closely related to the younger DuPont Sorona but was developed independently. In 2009 the US FTC recognised both Solotex and Sorona under the new fibre subclass "triexta".
The fibre has a helical molecular structure that behaves like a microscopic spring and provides high elastic recovery. Solotex is favoured in business suits, blouses and sportswear when shape retention without elastane is required, and is known for its soft hand feel and wrinkle recovery.
- Original petro-PTT variant, later generations partly made with bio-1,3-propanediol
- Very high colour depth with disperse dyes at low dyeing temperature
- Historical basis for many of today's triexta innovations (Sorona, T400)
- Less scratchy than classic PET and therefore suitable for next-to-skin wear
