Bicomponent stretch multifilament made from PTT (Sorona) and PET that delivers durable stretch without elastane.
Description
Sorona T400 (nowadays mostly branded as Lycra T400 EcoMade) is a bicomponent yarn made from two polymers extruded side by side: PTT (poly-trimethylene terephthalate, trade name Sorona) and PET. Because the two components shrink differently, the filament crimps during heat setting and creates a durable mechanical stretch of about 20-30 % without any elastane.
Roughly 37 % of the molecule comes from renewable plant sources (bio 1,3-propanediol made from corn sugar). The yarn is widely used in denim (comfort-stretch jeans), business chinos, blouses and children's wear.
- Recovery after stretch is far better than PET, hand feel softer than nylon
- More chlorine- and UV-resistant than elastane — longer life in swimwear
- Recyclable within the polyester value chain
- Dyeable with disperse dyes, often in the same bath as the PET warp
