Description

Organic cotton is produced according to certified organic farming rules. Synthetic pesticides, chemical fertilisers and genetically modified varieties are excluded; instead crop rotation, compost and biological pest control are used. Water consumption in rain-fed cultivation is significantly lower than for conventional cotton.

Certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), IVN Best or Naturland guarantee organic quality throughout the entire textile chain and add social standards. Main producing countries are India, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania and the USA. Market share is around 2 % of global cotton production, but growing steadily.

  • Free from toxic pesticides, GMO-free
  • Skin-friendly, suitable for allergy sufferers
  • Higher price, lower yield per hectare
  • Key labels: GOTS, IVN Best, OCS
