Brushed cotton

Cotton fabric whose surface has been mechanically raised — fluffy, soft and warming.
Description
In raising (or brushing), the cotton fabric or knit passes over fast-rotating drums covered with fine wire points. The fibres are pulled out of the surface to form a soft, fluffy nap. The base fabric itself is unchanged, only the surface.
Brushed cotton is used for winter sweats, fleeced loopback, flannel shirts, bed linen and pyjamas. The nap traps air and provides thermal insulation. Downsides are slightly higher pilling tendency and a bit more area weight because of the extra process step.
