Cottonized hemp

Hemp fibre broken down mechanically or enzymatically to cotton staple length — spinnable on standard cotton ring-spinning machines.
Description
Raw hemp bast fibres are 15–250 cm long and far too coarse for cotton spinning. In cottonization they are broken down mechanically (decortication, carding) and/or enzymatically to 25–40 mm length and finer bundles.
The result is a drop-in replacement for conventional cotton spinning and is typically used in blends with 30–70 % cotton, TENCEL or merino wool for T-shirts, light summer shirts and denim. Advantages: lower water demand than cotton, high tensile strength, naturally antibacterial. Downsides: more matte look and slightly coarser hand in the raw stage.
