Description

Huacaya alpacas make up about 90 % of the world's alpaca population. Their fleece is dense, soft and heavily crimped — so the animal looks fluffy like a sheep, unlike the long-haired Suri alpaca with its smooth locks. Peru holds around 80 % of the world's alpaca herd; Bolivia, Ecuador, the USA and Australia follow.

At 18–32 µm the fibre is finer and softer than sheep's wool, hollow (making it light and thermoregulating), lanolin-free — therefore hypoallergenic — and available in 22 natural colours from white through beige, rust brown to anthracite and black. The crimp gives high elasticity and makes Huacaya the preferred fibre for knitwear, pullovers, cardigans, beanies and scarves. The finest baby alpaca quality is normally obtained from Huacaya animals.

  • 90 % of all alpacas are Huacaya
  • Heavily crimped — ideal for knitwear
  • Hollow fibre: light, warm, moisture-wicking
  • Lanolin-free, hypoallergenic, 22 natural colours
