Cashmere
Also known as: Cashmere Wool
Extremely fine luxury fibre from the undercoat of the cashmere goat — light, soft and excellently warming.
Description
Cashmere is obtained from the fine undercoat of the cashmere goat, which lives mainly in Mongolia, China (Inner Mongolia), Iran and Afghanistan. The undercoat is combed or shorn in spring. Fibre diameter is around 14–19 µm, making it one of the finest animal natural fibres.
Only about 100–200 g of pure cashmere fibre are obtained per animal per year, which explains the high price. Cashmere insulates about three times better than sheep's wool at equal weight, is very soft and fine. Cashmere textiles are classics in sweaters, scarves, coats and cardigans. Care is on the wool cycle or by hand with wool detergent.
