Natural rubber

Elastic natural product from the sap of the rubber tree — the basis for stretch textile parts and rubber soles.
Description
Natural rubber is obtained from the milky sap (latex) of the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis, cultivated mainly in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia). Raw rubber is tapped from the tree, then coagulated and vulcanised into elastic end products.
In textiles, natural rubber is the basis for elastic threads (latex threads), cuffs, elastic waistbands and rubber sole materials for sneakers and sports shoes. Advantages are high elasticity, good recovery and biodegradability. Downsides are potential latex allergies and ageing under UV and ozone. Allergy-safe alternatives include elastane and synthetic rubber.
