Cotton spun on a ring frame into a particularly fine, smooth yarn.
Description
In ring spinning, the fibre sliver is drawn through a drafting zone and twisted by a traveller running on a ring around the spindle, which simultaneously winds the yarn onto the bobbin. The result is a particularly even, fine and strong yarn with high twist stability.
Ring spinning is the highest-quality standard spinning process for cotton but is slower and more expensive than rotor (open-end) spinning. Fabrics from ring-spun yarn feel softer, have a finer surface and print exceptionally well. They are the benchmark for premium T-shirts (typically 30s–40s Ne).
