Cotton knitted on circular knitting machines into a seamless tube — the basis for most T-shirt fabrics.
Description
In circular knitting, several yarn feeders run simultaneously through a cylinder of ring-arranged needles, producing a seamless tube. From this fabric T-shirts, polo shirts and sweat fabrics are cut. Common structures include single jersey, interlock, piqué and French terry.
The advantage of circular knitting is high productivity and the option to make side-seam-free or tubular shirts. Circular-knit cotton is stretchy, elastic and pleasant against the skin. Quality depends heavily on gauge, yarn used and finishing.
