Description

Supima is a portmanteau of Superior and Pima and is the protected trademark of the Supima Association, founded in 1954 as a non-profit representing around 500 Pima cotton farmers in California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. Only cotton composed of 100 % US-grown American Pima may carry the Supima logo.

Supima cotton is on average 45 % stronger, 45 % softer and significantly more colour-fast than conventional cotton — as verified by Cotton Incorporated. Since 2019 the Association has operated a track-and-trace system with isotopic verification to prevent label abuse. Globally, American Pima accounts for less than 1 % of cotton production, most of which carries the Supima seal. Brands such as Brooks Brothers, Land's End, Uniqlo (UT Supima Cotton T-shirts) and James Perse actively use Supima as a quality argument.
