Very fine corduroy with 16–21 wales per 10 cm — softer drape and more modern look than wide-wale cord.
Description
Baby cord — also known as fine-wale cord, pinwale corduroy or French mille-raies — is the finest common corduroy quality. Wale counts are typically 16 to 21 per 10 cm; for comparison, classic wide-wale cord (elephant cord) has only 4–9 wales per 10 cm. The pile is formed from short, evenly cut weft loops of cotton or cotton-elastane blends.
Baby cord drapes softer than wide cord, shows very little bulk and looks more refined in tailoring. It is ideal for women's trousers, kidswear, chinos, shirts, light blazers and jackets. Weights typically range from 220 to 320 g/m². Thanks to the dense pile the fabric is comfortably warm and wrinkle-resistant.
