Coarse-rib ottoman (weft-rib fabric)

Heavy rib fabric with clearly visible wide horizontal ribs — typical for coat, suit and interior fabrics.
Description
Coarse-rib ottoman is a subgroup of ottoman fabrics in which the horizontal ribs are especially pronounced through several thick weft yarns lying next to each other. The warp is fine and dense while the weft alternates thin and very thick threads — this creates the typical corrugated look with clearly tangible wide ribs.
The weave is a derivative of rep: all warp threads bind over and under the weft in the same repeat, so the ribs are completely covered by the warp material. Classically pure silk or wool-silk blend, today mostly viscose/polyester or wool/polyester in suit, blazer and coat qualities as well as premium interior applications.
- Heavier than classic ottoman: 250-500 g/m2 is common
- Very shape-retaining, drapes heavily and architecturally
- Back often smooth because only the warp is visible
