Union linen (half linen)

Union fabric of cotton warp and linen weft — at least 40 % linen content, classic for table and bed linen.
Description
Union linen (Halbleinen) is a normatively defined union fabric: cotton warp, pure linen weft, with the linen making up at least 40 % of the total weight (DIN and IWTO standard). The weave is usually plain or half-basket. The cotton warp makes weaving easier and the fabric softer, while the linen weft delivers the hand, absorbency and the cool, slightly rustic character of linen.
Union linen is more tear- and crease-resistant than pure linen and more affordable to produce. Weights are 180-260 g/m² for table linen, 150-200 g/m² for apparel. Moisture pick-up is up to 20 % without feeling damp — especially valued in hospitality.
Traditional uses: table linen (tea towels, napkins, tablecloths), bed linen, dish towels, light summer shirts and dresses, curtains. In hotels and gastronomy, union linen is the standard for premium textile equipment.
