Description

Interlock is a double-rib knit: two staggered opposing needle rows form interlocking loops. Result: both fabric faces are smooth and identical (front and back indistinguishable), the knit is dimensionally stable, does not roll at edges, and is more elastic than woven but less stretchy than single jersey. It is a knit, produced on interlock circular machines with two cylinders.

Fabric weights 170-260 g/m², machine gauges 18-28 E. Materials: cotton (standard), cotton-elastane, merino (for outdoor and base layers), viscose. The hand is full, soft, dense — clearly firmer and more premium than single jersey.

Uses: premium T-shirts, polos (interlock often replaces pique for premium polos), childrenswear (dimensionally stable), dresses, base layers in sport. Merino interlock is standard for functional underwear. Advantage: edges can be left un-hemmed (no rolling); disadvantage: higher weight and price. Interlock is occasionally confused with ottoman or pique — but has no rib or waffle structure.
