Ottoman fabric
Also known as: Ottoman cord, woven ottoman, ottoman rib
Heavy plain-weave rib with pronounced widthways cords — the woven counterpart to knitted ottoman.
Description
Woven ottoman is a rib fabric in plain weave in which thick, densely packed weft yarns are almost completely covered by a large number of fine warp yarns. The result is the characteristic horizontal cord — larger and rounder than the ribs of faille or bengaline.
Traditionally made from silk or wool, today ottoman is also woven in cotton and man-made fibres. The cloth feels heavy, dimensionally stable and refined — a classic choice for ceremonial coats, blazers, sheath dresses, ties and premium upholstery.
