Description

Oxford Heavy Twill refers to the heavy variants of the classic Oxford weave used for backpacks, bags and workwear. Unlike lightweight shirt Oxford in cotton, the heavy version is woven from multifilament polyester or polyamide, often in a 2:1 or 2:2 basketweave with an additional twill component. Typical weights are 300, 420, 600, 900 or even 1680 den.

The back is almost always finished with a PU, PVC or silicone coating to become waterproof and to increase tear strength. The characteristic ribbed surface comes from the combination of a finer warp and a thicker weft yarn.

  • Very abrasion resistant and shape stable — much more robust than shirt Oxford
  • Common coatings: PU 3000–10 000 mm water column, PVC for tents
  • Base material for backpacks, sports and travel bags, work jackets
  • Often combined with Cordura or ripstop reinforcements at stress points
